UK sophomore Ugonna Onyenso had a career night as he helped the Wildcats beat Mississippi 75-63 Tuesday night at Rupp Arena. Onyneso tied a Rupp Arena record by blocking 10 shots. He shares the mark with David Robinson of Navy, who had 10 rejections in 1987. Onyneso also had eight points, making all three of his shots.
"You know what’s funny? I told my coaches I was going to get eight blocks before the game… then I had seven in the first half. It’s amazing," said Onyenso, a 7-foot, 247-pounder from Nigeria. "I told my teammates I was going to get 10 blocks in one game this season and I did that.”
Kentucky senior Antonio Reeves led the team in scoring and rebounding in the same game for the first time this season. He had 15 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Reed Sheppard added 13 points and also led the Cats with five assists.
The Wildcats are now 17-7 overall (7-4 in SEC), while the Rebels dropped to 18-6 (5-6 in SEC).
UK begins its two-game road trip, beginning Saturday at Auburn. ESPN will televise the 6 pm ET game. On Wednesday night, the Cats will play at LSU.
