How It Happened
Kentucky got off to a hot start, making five of its first 10 attempts from the field, to lead Boston College, 13-11, at the first media timeout (4:57).
Emma King got the ball rolling for the ‘Cats, scoring a 3-pointer on the first possession in the game.
Boston College took the lead out of the media timeout on back-to-back buckets, 15-13, a lead that it would hold at the end of the first quarter
Neither team made a bucket in the final three minutes of the first quarter.
Kentucky trailed Boston College, 21-17, at the end of the first quarter.
It was balanced scoring to start the second quarter, with both teams scoring four field goals up to the media timeout (4:29), as Kentucky trailed Boston College, 32-28, at that break.
Eniya Russell scored Kentucky’s first six points in the period, on a pair of free throws, a layup in the paint and a jumper.
Out of the media timeout, Maddie Scherr scored on a free throw, before Boston College took its largest lead of the game on a layup (34-29, BC).
That’s when Kentucky began to chip away at Boston College’s lead, going on a 12-6 run down the stretch, which included a 5-0 run in the final 45 seconds of the first half.
Kentucky led Boston College, 41-40, at halftime.
The Wildcats shot 45.2 percent from the field (14-of-31) in the first half, including 50.0 percent from the arc (4-of-8).
Kentucky maintained its lead through the first media timeout of the third quarter (7:19), 48-46, after starting the period 3-of-4 from the field, which included a 3-pointer by Brooklynn Miles.
That would be the fifth UK player with a 3-pointer up to that point.
Out of the first media timeout, Emma King had a strong put-back layup and a chance to complete the and-1 play, as Kentucky took a four-point lead over Boston College.
The Eagles answered with a 7-0 run to regain their lead as the Wildcats called their first timeout of the game (6:10 – 52-50, BC).
Boston College narrowly outscored Kentucky, 12-11, the rest of the way, without UK’s starting guard Maddie Scherr, who left the game after a hard hit to the floor.
Kentucky trailed Boston College, 64-61, after the Eagles rattled one in at the buzzer to end the third quarter.
The Eagles scored first in the fourth quarter to stretch their lead to five points.
Eniya Russell got the Wildcats back in the back with a person-5-0 run on a jumper, a layup and a free throw to tie the game at 66-66 (8:09).
The two teams then went back-and-forth, scoring nine points apiece, which included a Saniah Tyler 3-pointer when Boston College would call the timeout at 4:58, with the game tied at 75.
Eniya Russell had a steal and score to take a two-point lead, before Boston College responded on its very next possession to tie the game against at 77.
Ajae Petty had back-to-back second-chance jumpers to make it a four-point game in Kentucky’s favor, before Boston College drained a 3-pointer to bring it back down to a one-point game.
Then, Brooklynn Miles was fouled, causing Boston College to go to the line for two and an opportunity to take the lead with 10 seconds remaining on the clock.
Dontavia Waggoner of Boston College made the first, missed the second, as the score was tied once again, 81-81.
Eniya Russell grabbed the defensive rebound, as UK called a timeout and advanced the ball.
Out of the timeout, she went on the make the layup with less than a second on the clock to help Kentucky defeat Boston College, 83-81.
