Reed Sheppard Named SEC Freshman of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference unveiled its men’s basketball post season awards Monday as selected by the league’s 14 head coaches.

 

South Carolina’s Lamont Paris was named SEC Coach of the Year and Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht was selected the SEC Player of the Year. Missouri’s Sean East III earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year, Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler was named Defensive Player of the Year and Kentucky’s Rob Dillingham was voted SEC Sixth Man of the Year.

 

First-team and second-team All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, All-Defensive team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman, Defensive, Sixth-Man, and Scholar-Athlete of the Year were chosen by the league’s 14 coaches. Ties were not broken.

REEVES, SHEPPARD CAPTURE SEC WEEKLY AWARDS


Kentucky men’s basketball swept this week’s Southeastern Conference Awards as Antonio Reeves was selected as the league’s Player of the Week, while Reed Sheppard was tabbed Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday.  

 

It marks the first sweep of the SEC weekly honors for Kentucky this season, a feat which comes after the Wildcats earned victories over both Vanderbilt and No. 4 Tennessee to secure the No. 2 seed in this week’s SEC Tournament.
