INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the fourth time in six years, the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team is the No. 1 seed and host of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Southeast Regional Championship, announced via the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship selection show Sunday night on NCAA.com.
The Railsplitters, who captured their fifth South Atlantic Conference Tournament title in 10 seasons Sunday afternoon with a gritty 75-68 victory over Queens University of Charlotte, will make their ninth NCAA regional championship appearance since 2010-11. After making eight-straight NCAA Tournaments from 2011-18, LMU returns to NCAA postseason play for the ninth time in 10 years as the top team in the Division II Southeast Region. Riding the longest winning streak in all of college basketball, the Railsplitters have earned 32 consecutive victories dating back to Nov. 1, 2019. At a remarkable 32-1 on the season, LMU is 20-0 in 2020 and owns a 17-0 record at home. The 2020 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Southeast Regional Championship will be held Saturday-Sunday, March 14-17 inside Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate, Tennessee. SAC Tournament and regular season runner-up Queens (24-7) is the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship, while Peach Belt Conference regular season champion UNC Pembroke (24-6) is the No. 3 seed. The Peach Belt's Augusta University (21-8) is seeded fourth in the regional championship, followed by Peach Belt Tournament champion Lander (23-8) fifth, fellow SAC member Catawba (20-10) sixth, Conference Carolinas Tournament champion Southern Wesleyan (20-11) seventh and Conference Carolinas Tournament and regular season runner-up Belmont Abbey (21-10) eighth. Joining the second-ranked Railsplitters as nationally-ranked teams in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship are 17th-ranked UNC Pembroke and 25th-ranked Queens. Augusta is receiving votes in the latest National Association of Basketball Coach (NABC) Top 25 poll. Eighth-seeded Belmont Abbey awaits LMU in the quarterfinals for the Division II Southeast Regional Championship Saturday, March 14. Tip-off time will be announced later in the week. The Railsplitters were also triumphant at the 2017 Division II Southeast Regional Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, the following year, ousting the top-seeded host Royals, 82-68.
