Former NFL and college football coach Howard Schnellenberger has penned an interesting memoir titled,"Passing the Torch" (Ascend Books, $24.95). His career, spanning six decades, includes his playing and coaching days at UK. The former U of L mentor shares classic stories about legendary coaches Paul "Bear" Bryant (in the book) and Adolph Rupp (in a recent interview). Schnellenberger's book also portrays some big-name coaches in unflattering light.
As of this writing (Saturday morning, Sept. 20), Schnellenberger is making several book-signing appearances in Tuscaloosa, Ala., during the weekend of the Alabama-Florida game. The former Alabama assistant coach under Bryant was pictured with current Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban as well as ex-Alabama coach Gene Stallings and ex-Crimson Tide QB Joe Namath on his Facebook page as they celebrated the 50th anniversary of UA's 1964 national championship.
